FAQ’s
DTG ink prefers 100% cotton or blends with high cotton content. Certain fabrics such as polyester can be printed with proprietary pre-treatment, but quality is not the same. Cotton is best if you want to achieve sharp and durable prints. If you are printing on many different types of materials, DTF would be a better alternative than DTG ink.
DTG ink is used in direct-to-garment printing and requires pretreatment on fabric. Cotton is best to use with DTG ink. DTF ink, however, prints on film first and transfers to fabric by using powder and heat. DTF inks adhere to a wider variety of materials and don't always require pretreatment, so they're more convenient to use for certain projects.
Print yield depends on the design size and ink coverage. On average, a 1-liter bottle of direct to garment ink can print around 150 to 300 full-sized T-shirts. Lighter designs need less direct to garment ink, so you’ll get more prints. Always follow usage guidelines to avoid waste.
Following printing with direct to garment ink, cure it with a heat press or conveyor dryer. A standard setting is 330°F (165°C) for approximately 90 seconds with medium pressure. Curing makes the ink stick together well, so it won't crack or fade when washed. Always use the ink brand's instructions for optimum results.
To prevent cracking or fading, ensure the fabric is pretreated correctly, employ good-quality ink for DTG printer models, and fully cure the print. Wash clothes inside out in cold water and never use harsh detergents. In addition, store ink in a dry, cool environment and keep your printhead well-maintained at regular intervals.
